Supporters’ XI: Philadelphia Union

After an emotional victory against the Chicago Fire where the Columbus Crew said goodbye to historic Crew Stadium, the Black & Gold go the City of Brotherly Love to face Eastern Conference rival, the Philadelphia Union. A midweek win would put the Crew within shouting distance of the top of the conference, and with several key players set to return, the Crew could be coming in strong with the team’s lineup.

Goalkeeper Eloy Room returns from COVID-19 quarantine protocol following his time with the Curaçao National Team and is likely to reclaim his place in between the sticks. Additionally, left back Milton Valenzuela and winger Luis Diaz could make their return, as both were listed as questionable on Monday’s injury report.

Forward Bradley Wright Philips remains out for Wednesday’s game, so Saturday’s hero, Gyasi Zardes, will most likely get the start up front. Winger Kevin Molino got some playing time late in the game on Saturday and may provide a change-up in midfield, allowing Pedro Santos, who held his own in the left back position of late, to provide some depth if Valenzuela still can’t start.

With four days before the Union game and a trip to Austin FC for Sunday’s game, head coach Caleb Porter does not have to worry too much about a quick turnaround and relying on heavy rotation.
