The penultimate game of the Columbus Crew’s 2021 season is the biggest road match for the club in years. The Black & Gold are in America’s capital to face D.C. United in its final away match to play for its season. The two sides have met twice this season in Columbus, with the Crew winning at the historic Crew Stadium in May and losing at Lower.com Field in August.

For the Crew, the task is simple. A win and Columbus stays alive for MLS Cup playoff contention going into Decision Day next Sunday against the Chicago Fire. Anything less than a win against D.C. and the Black & Gold will officially be eliminated from contention with one game to spare.

United can neither qualify nor be eliminated for an MLS Cup playoff spot on Saturday. D.C. is currently sitting in that seventh place spot, just one point above the New York Red Bulls. A win will certainly increase United’ss odds going into its Decision Day game against Toronto. Another thing to watch is striker Ola Kamara, the former Black & Gold forward, who currently leads the golden boot race with 17 goals, including three against the Crew.
