Columbus will be the center of the American soccer world on Wednesday night when the United States Men’s National Team hosts Costa Rica in FIFA World Cup qualifying. The match between the U.S. and Los Ticos are set to be the first international soccer game to be played at Lower.com Field and the first in Columbus in five years. The city has a long-standing tradition with the USMNT with a World Cup qualifier being hosted in Ohio’s capital for the sixth consecutive tournament.

This will be the 11th total USMNT World Cup qualifier to be played in Columbus with the Americans playing the previous 10 at historic Crew Stadium. The most famous games in the city were the “Dos A Cero” matches between the United States and Mexico with that match being played in Cincinnati next month. This year, it's Costa Rica who comes to Columbus and Lower.com Field.

The United States is coming off a disappointing loss to Panama on Sunday and will look to get back on track at home against Los Ticos. Crew striker Gyasi Zardes, former Black & Gold manager Gregg Berhalter and former goalkeeper Zack Steffen are all a part of the USMNT squad.

Costa Rica is fresh off its first win in qualifying on Sunday night with a 2-1 victory at home against El Salvador. Crew winger Luis Diaz and former Crew defender Giancarlo Gonzalez are both in the Los Ticos squad who are looking to upset the United States in downtown Columbus.
