Eloy Room is the Crew’s only to makes MLS’s top-rated in FIFA 21

We think EA Sports may be forgetting a few Black & Gold players

It’s that time of year again when EA Sports reveal the player ratings for the newest FIFA video game. So far this summer, EA announced the ratings for the top 100 players, the new ICON cards and the fastest players in the game which launchest on Oct. 6.

On Thursday, Major League Soccer did a special ratings reveal on the league’s official Twitter to show some of the top-rate players in FIFA 21 from the league. This release consisted of only the top-10 players in MLS, as well as the top-10 forwards, midfielders, defenders and goalkeepers. For Columbus Crew SC fans, there is not much of a presence in the reveal of the top players in the league. Goalkeeper Eloy Room is the Crew’s only player that made any of the lists.

According to EA, Room is one of the top-five rated goalkeepers in MLS, with a FIFA 21 rating of 75. Compared to last year, that is a plus-one overall upgrade to Room’s FIFA 20 card and with a rating of 75, Room’s card becomes a gold item for FIFA 21’s Ultimate Team game mode.

Room’s 75 rating is the same as Bill Hamid of D.C. United, Stefan Frei of the Seattle Sounders and Andre Blake of the Philadelphia Union. Kenneth Vermeer of Los Angeles Football Club has a 76 rating and the top goalkeeper in MLS, according to EA.

Other than Room, no other players from the Supporters’ Shield leaders is considered in this top list of MLS players. Columbus’ Gyasi Zardes, who has the second-most goals scored in the league this year, is nowhere to be seen in the top-10 forwards. Jonathan Mensah does not make the list of highest-rated defenders, despite being he only constant on a Black & Gold backline that as allowed a league-low four goals this season. Darlington Nagbe and Lucas Zelarayan are not among the best midfielders in FIFA 21, even though both could be considered MVP candidates in 2020.

In the last FIFA game, only two Crew players had gold items and those were Darlington Nagbe and Federico Higuain. And during the end of FIFA 20, Darlington Nagbe received a 94-rated special card that was initially depicted as an Atlanta United item in August. For those not familiar with the FIFA game, these little mistakes happen often throughout the course of the game with very little attention to detail showed.

Debate all you want if you believe more Crew players should be in the top FIFA ratings but at the end of the day, the Black & Gold may have the last laugh. Ratings on pixels don’t correlate to first place in the Supporters’ Shield race and that’s what matters most to the Crew player. We shall see in the coming days what each Crew player’s card looks like as more FIFA 21 ratings are released.
