Editor’s Note: Ben Ferree joined Massive Report on loan from Pro Soccer USA until the end of the MLS season, bringing his regular gambling column to our pages. Ferree brings his Best Bets column for Massive Report foor MLS is Back Tournament. Enjoy!
It was a solid start to the first week of gambling for Best Bets in the MLS is Back Tournament, as the lock of the week was correct and Columbus Crew SC decimated FC Cincinnati for another easy win. D.C. United and Toronto FC was initially called off at the last minute and rescheduled, which would’ve voided any bets placed on that game.
The loss from last week came when Orlando City SC and Inter Miami combined for three goals after a late winner by Nani and a win for the host teeam. A minute or two fewer of stoppage time, and it would have been a perfect week.
Now it’s on to Week 2, or the second round of MLS is Back.
New to betting? Odds are expressed around the number 100, meaning $100 being wagered. For example, if a bet is listed as +200, it means betting $100 would win you $200. Conversely, a bet listed as -200 would mean you have to bet $200 to win $100.
San Jose Earthquakes to beat the Vancouver Whitecaps, -115
Granted, this is the second game for San Jose and the first for Vancouver, so the Whitecaps will be better rested. But the Earthquakes also have experience in the tournament. Not to mention, the Canadians are without Lucas Cavallini, Fredy Montero and Tosaint Ricketts, as well as defenders Andy Rose and Georges Mukumbilwa. This should be an easy win for the Quakes.
Toronto FC to win against the Montreal Impact, +100
After an embarrassing draw against D.C. United, Toronto looks to take control of group C before the team’s final game against the New England Revolution, which should be their hardest.
Lock of the week: Atlanta United to beat FC Cincinnati, -182
I won’t patronize you by summarizing this one, let’s just all enjoy the money.
