Crew announces new classic game schedule

This is the third week the Black & Gold have shown classic matches.

The timetable for MLS to return to action keeps getting longer and longer. It will now be at least June 8 before games return to play given the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. But during these difficult times, clubs from around the league have re-aired some of their classic games, giving the fans something to watch while staying quarantined and practicing social distancing.

Columbus Crew SC hopped on that train a few weeks ago, releasing three games a week for Black & Gold fans to enjoy. On Monday, the team announced that it will re-air three more games on the club’s official website (columbuscrewsc.com) and SportsTime Ohio. Matches will be aired on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week.

On Wednesday, April 22, the Crew will replay the 2017 Eastern Conference MLS Cup playoff knockout round against Atlanta United, which originally aired on Oct. 26. This match ended in a dramatic penalty kick shootout at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in which goalkeeper Zack Steffen stopped two crucial penalty kicks and Adam Jahn scored the winner from the spot to send Columbus through to the next round. You can catch the match on the team’s website, with the stream beginning at 12 p.m. ET.

SportsTime Ohio is scheduled to re-airing the 3-1 win against the LA Galaxy from the 2019 season which originally was played on May 8, 2019. That broadcast is set for Thursday, April 23 at 8 p.m. ET. On Friday, SportsTime Ohio will also re-air the home contest against the Montreal Impact from July 20, 2019, where the. Black & Gold walked away with a 2-1 win over their Canadian counterparts. That is scheduled for a 5 p.m. ET start time.

It’s important to note that matches shown on the club’s official website will be geo-fenced to the Crew’s territory, per MLS Guidelines. Matches shown on SportsTime Ohio will also be available to stream on the FOX Sports Go App.

The league’s platform, MLS Unites, aims to bring the soccer community together during the COVID-19 pandemic. This week’s focus is MLS Unites for Those In Need. Last week, the Kid’s Corner was featured in the focus MLS Unites to Inspire Kids, which showcased videos and activities for children.

Additional programming from the Crew includes Home Workouts led by Kelly Roderick, the team’s assistant strength and conditioning coach, The Breakdown where TV analyst Jordan Angeli providing analysis on parts of games and weekly Stay At Home Recipes from registered team dietician Jay Short. Supporters can also listen to the team’s radio show, Inside The Crew with Angeli and Neil Sika, every Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET on 97.1 The Fan.
