On Friday, Major League Soccer announced the schedule and broadcast lineup for the 2020 MLS Cup playoffs, which is set to begin on Nov. 20th, culminating with MLS Cup on Dec. 12.

Given the shakeup to the season amongst the COVID-19 pandemic, 18 clubs will qualify for the MLS Cup playoffs. Just after the November FIFA international window, a total of 17 matches will be played over a span of 22 days. This also includes an MLS record of 14 postseason matches being played over a span of 13 days.

The format will be the same as last year, as games will be single elimination and hosted by the higher-seeded club. MLS did however change how teams will qualify for the playoffs, now going off of points per game to determine qualification due to teams finishing the season with different number of games played.

All 17 postseason games will be broadcast on national television in the U.S. on ABC/ESPN/ESPN2/ESPN Deportes, FOX/FS1//FOX Deportes, and Univision's Unimas and TUDN networks; In Canada on TSN and TVA Sports networks and in more than 190 countries around the globe.

FOX Sports and ESPN will cover certain matches every round leading up to 2020 MLS Cup Final, with FOX being the host for the final for the third consecutive time. The network currently holds the record for most-watched MLS Cup since 1997.

ABC will present a conference finals match that will determine one of the MLS Cup participants. This will mark the first non-championship MLS postseason match on ABC since 2006.

Univision’s UniMas/TUDN will cover two first round matches, as well as more in-depth coverage of the MLS Cup Final. The entirety of the playoffs and final will be seen live in Canada in English on TSN and French on TVA Sports. Specific details for Canadian and international broadcasts will be announced in the coming days, leading up to the beginning of the playoffs.
