MLS: D.C. United at Columbus Crew SC Greg Bartram-USA TODAY Sports

Columbus Crew SC face another grueling stretch with three games in eight days starting with a trip to face D.C. United. Desperately out of form, the Black & Gold are looking to avoid losing five straight games for the first time since the 2000 season.

The Crew offense remains mired in an extreme slump. They have scored eight goals over 10 games. Their last goal came against Portland on April 20, a scoreless streak that extends to 201 minutes. The Black & Gold have been outscored 7-1 during the streak when the offense evaporated and the defense regressed.

D.C. United are likewise struggling. The D.C. side has a 2-2-1 record over their last five games. They sit just behind the Philadelphia Union in the standings on goal differential with 17 points. Wayne Rooney has been as electric as ever with five goals and three assists to lead the offense. The injury-thinned defense just received reinforcements as Marquinhos Pedroso arrived in a trade on Friday from FC Dallas.
