Federico Higuain was named to this week’s MLS Team of the Week as a reserve player; a well-deserved nod from Major League Soccer after the midfielder put in two dominating performances this week. This is Higuain’s first appearance on the MLS Team of the Week list this season.

In Wednesday’s 3-1 win over the LA Galaxy, Higuain notched his 62nd career assist, breaking the club record for all-time assists. The record was previously held by midfielder Robert Warzycha. This was his fourth assist of the season, though it was technically a secondary assist, for the ball was put in by Gyasi Zardes off of a Robinho cross.

Not only did Pipa have an assist Wednesday, he also added a goal to the win, the game-winning goal actually. The goal came off of a Zardes assist and doubled the Crew’s lead. It was Higuain’s first goal of the season and 55th all-time.

In Saturday’s 3-0 loss to LAFC, Higuain still made an impact. He was subbed in for midfielder Artur at halftime and managed to create a number of chances in his time on the field with the scoreline at 1-0. Regardless, the Black & Gold couldn’t finish any of their chancess to get a result.

It’s been four weeks since the a member of the Black & Gold made an appearance on the Team of the Week roster. This drought of recognition coincides with the team’s lack of wins that extended from April 6 until this Wednesday. The relief didn’t last long, however, with Saturday’s loss spoiling it.

Other appearances on the MLS Team of the Week this season roster include goalkeeper Zack Steffen, center back Gaston Sauro, striker Gyasi Zardes and head coach Caleb Porter. Steffen made appearances on the Team of the Week in Weeks 3, 5 and 6. Sauro made Team of the Week to open the year and and in Week 3 while Zardes and Porter got the nod in Week 2.
