Columbus Crew SC appointed Neil McGuinness as the club’s new Director of Scouting. The Crew announced the news on Wednesday afternoon.

“Neil brings a vast array of experience at the highest level of world soccer and I believe he will be a great addition to our Technical Staff,” Crew President Tim Bezbatchenko said in the press release. “The wide contact network that Neil established during his time in Europe will be a great asset to the Club and will help us in our quest to continue to challenge for titles.”

McGuinness comes to Columbus following a three-year stint working for the Qatar Football Association from 2015 to 2018. While with the QFA, McGuinness worked as a Senior Player Recruiter and was responsible for identifying and recruiting players to represent the Qatar National Team. McGuinness also worked as a scout for Qatar’s Aspire Academy and was a consultant to top league teams in England, France, German, Mexico, Saudi Arabia and Spain.

Before beginning his work with the QFA, McGuinness served as the First Team Senior scout for Celtic Football Club, one of the top teams in the Scottish Premier League. McGuinness was responsible for scouting for the first team, recruiting internationally and also providing analysis for European competition, such as the UEFA Champions League, during his time with Celtic.
