Columbus Crew SC fans who were watching the U.S. Men’s National Team match against Costa Rica on Saturday had the first glimpse of the team’s new yellow kits for the upcoming 2019 Major League Soccer season as the club released the jerseys through a television commercial during halftime.

The video had the Crew’s midfielder, Federico Higuain, entering MAPFRE Stadium with a backpack. Pipa then enters the team’s locker room, turns the lights on and puts the yellow jersey on. It ends with the information that both the kits and single match tickets will be on sale on Monday.

On Monday morning, the Crew officially announced the “2019 Gold kit,” which will feature a gold jersey, gold shorts and gold socks. This kit will serve as the primary, with the 2018 black kit as the team’s secondary kit.

The jersey is different from last year’s in some aspects, particularly with the tone of yellow used on the kit. The plaid details on the sides are also gone, being replaced by a checkerboard effect on the entire piece, which is assumedly pays homage to the the fans. The kit has also some white details on the neck and sleeves and a badge with the number 96 in the back.

From the press release:

The 2019 Gold Kit features a black V-neck collar with a white stripe, sleeves with black trim that features a white stripe, and embossed checkerboard fabric. A one-of-a-kind jock tag designating “Charter Member #01” rests on the front of the jersey in recognition of being the first MLS club charter awarded. Additionally, a heritage shield commemorating the Club’s initial MLS season in 1996 is affixed to the back just above the player names.

Initial reaction on social media was positive, as some fans expressed their appreciation for the new jerseys.

The 2019 Gold kit is officially on sale and can be purchased at the Crew SC shop at the stadium or online at MLSSoccer.com.
