Philadelphia Union use bye week to begin trash talking a bit early

The Union takes to social media to stir the pot ahead of Saturday’s match.

The match between Columbus Crew SC and Philadelphia Union isn’t scheduled to kick off until Saturday afternoon but the trash talking has already begun.

Earlier this week the Union social media team had a rather interesting tweet, pointing out that Philly goalkeeper Andre Blake has a perfect record against Crew SC.

Pump the brakes.

While that is true, Blake has just two appearances against the Black & Gold in his career with both wins coming in a down year for the Black & Gold during the 2016 season. Last year Blake missed the home-and-home series against the Black & Gold due to Gold Cup obligations for the Jamaican National Team.

Crew SC goalkeeper Zack Steffen appeared against the Union twice in his career, with both appearances coming against Philly last season. He secured a clean sheet in the first game earning a 1-0 victory and was defeated in the second game losing 3-0 in Chester.

Philadelphia celebrating Blake’s two wins and “perfect record” over Crew SC is like saying you made the best diss track of all-time before the rebuttal even comes out. If we are celebrating small victories, let’s take a moment to appreciate Steffen and the fact that he owns more clean sheets than Blake in this series.

At the end of the day, Crew SC know who the better goalie in CONCACAF really is, and he plays for the good guys.
