Columbus Crew SC’s newest offensive addition could be coming from South America as Ecuadoran website Imperio Futbol EC revealed the Black & Gold is negotiating with forward Adolfo Muñoz, who currently plays for El Nacional.

The 20-year-old forward was interviewed by the media outlet and confirmed the talks with Crew SC, which, according to him, could be concluded as soon as this week.

“I want to play overseas and there is a possibility I play in MLS,” he was quoted in the publication. “The team I would play for is Columbus Crew. I believe it will be decided this week.”

According to the Ecuadoran media, Crew SC has submitted an offer for Muñoz’s services. The Black & Gold reportedly agreed to pay $1 million for 70 percent of his transfer rights.

However, El Nacional’s president Tito Manjarrez said two days ago in an interview to radio station La Red that no offer has been made for Muñoz yet. Asked about Muñoz, head coach and sporting director Gregg Berhalter gave his normal response that he would not comment on players who are not part of the roster.

The forward can play in all three attacking position and scored 11 goals in 35 professional matches for El Nacional. He was part of Ecuador’s U-20 National Team on last year’s South American Championship, but didn’t make the cut for the U-20 World Cup.
