After a third place finish in last week’s Pacific Rim Cup, Columbus Crew SC head back to the mainland to take on Atlanta United in the first match of the Carolina Challenge Cup.
Saturday’s match marks the first time both clubs have seen each other since the incredible knockout round match in the 2017 MLS Cup playoffs. Crew SC outlasted Atlanta and advanced on penalty kicks thanks to the heroics of goalkeeper Zack Steffen.
United looks poised to achieve great things this season. The Five Stripes acquired a host of star players including Darlington Nagbe from the Portland Timbers and made a huge splash in the transfer market when they acquired the services of 18-year-old Argentinian midfielder Ezequiel Barco.
Expect lots of players to get worked into this match as both Tata Martino and Gregg Berhalter look to solidify their match day lineups.
