Columbus Crew SC welcome the New York Red Bulls into MAPFRE Stadium on Saturday evening for a pivotal clash that could go a long way in determining the seeding in the Eastern conference. It’s the first time both sides have played since April 22nd when midfielder Artur and defender Alex Crognale both exited the match due to injury.
It was a fixture that Black & Gold would like to forget about. The only notable injury for Crew SC is left back Waylon Francis who isn’t expect back until next week’s match against DC United at the earliest.
Red Bull come in the match following a loss at the hands of Sporting Kansas City during the final of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Jesse Marsch rested a large contingency of his men leading up to the final but it’s expected his lineup won’t change.
Keys to the match:
Maintain composure: New York love to muck up a match and slow down play with systematic and timely fouls. This will test a young Crew SC team and they need to keep their wits about them to be successful against the mind games and match psychology of Red Bull.
Limit miscues: Defensive miscues have killed Crew SC and have been the difference between taking home all three points or leaving with a draw or a loss. The Black & Gold need to be mentally sharp during the course of this match.
Indian Summer: It’s going to be warm at MAPFRE tonight and Red Bull are traditionally a team that likes to press high. Columbus could be very successful if they sit back and look to withstand pressure and then attack quickly on the counter as they allow New York to tire themselves out.
