The United States men’s national team has struggled in the 2017 edition of the Gold Cup. A disappointing 1-1 tie against Panama was followed up by a back and forth match against Martinique that the Americans won 3-2. They will finish up in front of a friendly crowd of approaching 30,000 in Cleveland tonight.
Jordan Morris’ second goal on the night put the U.S. ahead after Kevin Parsemain led semi-pros from the island nation to tie the game from a 2-0 deficit. The performance was another poor, disjointed affair for the Red, White & Blue. They struggled with continuity after a drastically changed lineup.
Nicaragua is the weakest team in the group. They have yet to win and have a -3 goal differential. This is a team that the Americans should roll past, as Panama and Martinique have before. The U.S. are tied with Panama for the top of the Group and a big win tonight will ensure the Americans go through as the top seed.
John Strong is on the call alongside Landon Donovan and Stu Holden. Jenny Taft will be the sideline reporter.
