After D.C. United acquires Jamaican striker Deshorn Brown (via a trade with the Houston Dynamo for the first spot in the MLS Allocation Order), Columbus Crew SC will take over the first spot in the Allocation Order for the first time since signing Kei Kamara off the list in 2014.
The MLS Allocation Order is a mechanism for the league’s teams to acquire either players transferred out of MLS or U.S. Men’s National Team and U.S. Youth National Team players who have not played in MLS. The full list of players who can only be signed via the Allocation Order can be found here.
Crew SC have been rumored to have contact with two players on that list, Omar Gonzalez and Junior Flores, and will remain in the first position until that spot is used, traded, or the 2018 Allocation Order is announced after the conclusion of this season. Former Columbus center-back Giancarlo Gonzalez remains on the allocation list after his 2014 transfer to Palermo.
