How to Watch: Crew SC vs Atlanta United

Columbus takes on the explosive expansion side

MLS: Atlanta United FC at Vancouver Whitecaps FC Anne-Marie Sorvin-USA TODAY Sports

Columbus Crew SC face expansion Atlanta United for their first league matchup. Both are battling for position in the Eastern Conference playoff race.

Both teams played midweek as they travelled for the Open Cup. Crew SC played a very strong side with Federico Higuain, Justin Meram, and Wil Trapp among key players playing a full 90 minutes. Berhalter has promised four of five new starters.

Atlanta United was victorious midweek in their first time in the Open Cup. Coming off the thrilling come from behind win, they will be backed by a capacity crowd.

Expected Lineup:

Keys to the Match:

Loud and Clear: It’s going to be a big and loud crowd as Atlanta has gotten behind their team and unlike the midweek game against FC Cincinnati, the home side will attack. The backline will have to be in constant communication to ensure that there aren’t any issues with coverage, rotation, and marking a very dynamic attack.

Gutting it out: Crew SC played a strong team midweek and the heat and humidity will make a second game in four days extra challenging for the five to six players that remain unchanged in the lineup.

Picking the spots: The offense has struggled on the road and will either have a tired Higuain and Meram or have to do without. The Atlanta defense gives up chances. A well rested Ola Kamara has to be able to convert.
