Major League Soccer announced the Team of the Week for Week 10 on Monday. Making the cut this week was Crew SC attacker Federico Higuain. The 32-year-old midfielder has experienced a renaissance of sorts as he has been in tremendous form in the last month. He scored two goals and has two assists in four starts.
Pipa has been a catalyst for everything that Columbus is doing offensively.
Higuain was very selective on Saturday in the 2-0 win over the New England Revolution when he put the ball on goal. Shooting a total of three times from the top of the 18-yard box. He found the back of the net once and put in a solid shift versus New England.
In addition to showing discipline in the offensive third, Higuain was a key cog in the Columbus attack. It was vintage Higuain as he looked to get the ball into the final third by any means necessary. Often he looked to hook up with Ethan Finlay, Justin Meram or Ola Kamara with a long ball as he tried to catch Revs defenders Andrew Ferrell and Kellyn Rowe out of position as they both were cheating up throughout various stretches of the match.
Here is how Higuain’s heat map looked on Saturday:
