Columbus Crew SC send two players on loan

Cristian Martinez and Connor Maloney headed on the road for upcoming loan assignments.

It’s been a busy day for Columbus Crew SC youngsters Connor Maloney and Cristian Martinez, who are both heading out on loan this week.

Martinez is headed to FC Cincinnati and Maloney will go to Pittsburgh to play with Crew SC’s affiliate, the Riverhounds.

Martinez has yet to make an appearance for the Black & Gold this season, but was featured in the 18 last week against the Montreal Impact. In his previous tenure with FC Cincinnati he featured in the First XI for the Lions and recorded one shot on goal. He will be eligible for selection this week as FC Cincinnati take on Bethlehem Steel FC.

Maloney will join fellow players Abuchi Obinwa, Lalas Abubakar, and Marshall Hollingsworth in Pittsburgh. Maloney has a homecoming of sorts on his hands as he is from Pennsylvania and attended school at Penn State. The rookie has made one appearance for Crew SC against the Houston Dynamo on March 11th.

Both player’s loans are on a game-by-game basis and will likely return to Columbus next week.

You can catch the Riverhounds against Columbus’ potential Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup opponent Louisville City FC on Saturday at 7 pm. The game will be streamed on YouTube.
