Days after recording the first hat trick of his professional career, Columbus Crew SC winger Justin Meram has been named MLS Player of the Week, also for the first time in his career.

This news came just a day after the winger was named as part of MLS’s Team of the Week.

Playing three matches in eight days, Meram tallied three goals and one assist.

The Michigan native and Iraqi international scored all three Crew SC goals in Saturday’s match against Montreal Impact, including the 91st minute game winner, answering his mom’s request for a goal during Mother’s Day weekend.

Through the first 12 matches of the 2017 MLS season, the Black & Gold winger has seven goals and four assists, placing him tied for third in the Golden Boot race. Meram is just one goal away from his career high of the eight he scored in the 2014 MLS season.

Meram and Crew SC travel to take on the New England Revolution on Sunday, May 21 at 2:30 ET, where they will look to build on the thrilling victory at Montreal.
