Loanee Lookout: Week 3.5

It was the first midweek match for the Riverhounds.

While Columbus Crew SC has to wait to the week to get back on the field, its affiliate club Pittsburgh Riverhounds had its first midweek of the season.

St. Louis FC continued its unbeaten streak Wednesday night after defeating the Riverhounds at Highmark Stadium. Despite Pittsburgh forward Kay Banjo’s easy goal early on, the visiting team from St. Louis refocused and worked their way back to a 2-1 win.

Crew SC loanees Marshall Hollingsworth and Abuchi Obinwa started the match in the midfield for the Riverhounds. They were the only two Columbus-based players to make the game day roster. It was Obinwa’s first start for Pittsburgh, after the weekend injury to fellow loanee Ben Swanson, and Hollingsworth was voted the home side’s man of the match.

The contest was not the most enthralling display by either team. While Obinwa and Hollingsworth didn’t perform poorly, I didn’t necessarily think their performances were too noteworthy. Therefore, I’m not breaking down their individual contributions this time. If interested, remember USL matches can be streamed live for free, and can also be viewed on YouTube.

The Riverhounds travel back down south to North Carolina this Saturday, April 15 to take on a Charlotte Independence side that has yet to win a match. It’s a 7 p.m. kickoff. Catch the Black & Gold loanees first half in action before Crew SC kickoff against Toronto FC at 8 p.m.
