The Portland Timbers are coming to Columbus and they will not be coming alone. It appears that over 100 supporters will be making the journey to MAPFRE Stadium from various parts of the country for Saturday’s contest with Columbus Crew SC. Most will be arriving from Portland, but some will be making the journey from locations as far east as New York City.

Timbers Army are the group that fills Providence Park with songs, scarves, flags and confetti. Along with Army are the 107 Independent Supports Trust or IST. Their mission is to support soccer within Portland, Oregon, from grassroot soccer to the professional level. Many will remember they arrived in full-voice for MLS Cup Final in 2015 — the Timbers defeated Crew SC 2-1 — and they will be looking for a repeat performance on Saturday.

Some of Timbers Army will be arriving in town on Friday and they have planned a meet up at Three-Legged Mare in the Arena District downtown. That event is scheduled to begin at 8:00 pm on March 24th. Crew fans are encouraged to attend and welcome our friends to town.

Timbers Army will be tailgating in the southeast corner of B lot at MAPFRE Stadium. Postmatch the group will be head up at Union Cafe in the Short North and many have plans for a craft beer tour on Sunday, with stops at Land-Grant, BrewDog, and Seventh Son.

Make sure to be great ambassadors to our friends from Portland. Several fans that Massive Report talked to had nothing but kind things to say about Columbus. If you see them make sure to give them a solid recommendation on an awesome local spot to showcase what Columbus is about.
