The 20-year old Artur is a defensive midfielder and has made four senior appearances for Sao Paulo and was recently training for the reserves. The move appears similar to last year’s acquisition of Cristian Martinez, who was brought in on loan as a 19 year old.
Crew SC has focused on adding players on defense and central midfield this offseason. Artur would join a crowded midfield with Mohammed Abu and Abuchi Obinwa joining the team this offseason. The central midfield crop now stands at seven, with Wil Trapp, Tony Tchani, Rodrigo Saravia, and Ben Swanson held over from last season.
If the Black & Gold add Artur, Gregg Berhalter will have a wealth of choices heading into 2017.
Artur would take an international slot if he does sign with the team. Currently Crew SC has nine players labelled as internationals, but Berhalter previously said that several players are close to acquiring a green card.
Major League Soccer teams must be roster compliant by the end of preseason.
A conference call with Berhalter from Brazil was scheduled for Monday morning but was moved to Tuesday afternoon. Massive Report will have any updates as they come from Brazil or Crew SC.
