The Black & Gold add another draft selection in exchange for the backup keeper.

After having his option declined earlier this month, Brad Stuver wasn’t out of a job long as Columbus Crew SC traded the veteran goalkeeper to New York City FC ahead of the re-entry draft.

NYCFC apparently wanted to ensure they grabbed Stuver before he was made available for other teams to select and sent a fourth-round pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft. With current starter Sean Johnson returning, Stuver may be in line for another backup spot in New York.

Crew SC made a similar trade with the LA Galaxy yesterday to acquire goalkeeper Jon Kempin. He will now be the backup to Columbus starter Zack Steffen.

Stuver joined Crew SC via the 2013 Waiver Draft and served as a backup during his tenure with the team. He made two regular season and five Open Cup appearances as he backed up Steve Clark and Steffen over his four years with the Black & Gold.
