With the threat of relocation looming, Columbus Crew SC fans have been vocal about supporting their team. It will show up in the stands on Tuesday as standing room only tickets are all that remain on sale according to Ticketmaster for the Eastern Conference Final against Toronto FC.
Tickets sold briskly across a majority of sections since the game was announced on Nov. 5th. The majority of sections only had a handful of tickets remaining at the beginning of the week and the last pair of non-standing room tickets sold today.
It is unclear if the team will be adding additional seating. A spokesman replied, “That is to be determined” when asked if the team will add bleachers. The team added bleacher seats for the First leg of the 2015 Eastern Conference Final against the New York Red Bulls after the lower bowl sold out and tickets remained in the upper tier.
There will be a strong away contingent as well. TFC sold their full allotment of away tickets. About 1,000 fans will be traveling in support of the Supporter’s Shield holders.
The announced attendance for the first leg at MAPFRE Stadium for the Eastern Conference semifinals against New York City FC was controversially announced at 14,416 despite many sections filled to capacity. The team had implemented extra security procedures that MLS rolls out for the playoffs, causing a cascade of long lines to enter the stadium, so the team encourages fans arrive early, as the gates will open two hours prior to kickoff instead of the usual hour and a half.
Officially a sellout or not, the Black & Gold will be well supported on Tuesday evening.
