Columbus Crew SC fans are walking with more pep in their step today upon hearing the news that Designated Player Federico Higuain extended his contract another year with the Black & Gold.
The 32-year-old midfielder has enjoyed a productive 2017 campaign after being plagued by injury a year earlier. Pipa has found the score sheet nine times and assisted on 11 goals and his leadership in the locker room is unsurpassed.
The Designated Player’s return was in doubt following some comments made to The Columbus Dispatch.
It’s two months to the day from when Higuain said he was leaving after the season to him signing a contract extension for 2018. #CrewSC— Patrick Guldan (@GuldanMR) October 3, 2017
Fearing this past Saturday’s regular season finale may be the last of Higuain at MAPFRE Stadium, Supporters got creative to immortalize the talisman.
When the news broke of Higuain’s new contract, fans were elated and immediately took to social media in jubilation.
Great to see Pipa signing a one-year DP extension w/ #CrewSC. Winning, addition of Pedro & Berhalter’s patience help change Higuain’s mind.— Tom Reed (@treed1919) October 3, 2017
