Wil Trapp will be returning to Columbus Crew SC from the January National Team camp a little earlier than expected. He failed to make Bruce Arena's 23 man game day roster and was one of five players released early.

Trapp was a bit of a surprise when the January U.S. Soccer camp roster was announced after an up and down 2016 season. He has been a mainstay with youth national teams and made two senior appearances in his previous January call ups, but has not broken through into the core group. Now entering his fifth MLS seasoni, Trapp will have to work to impress Arena and work back into the squad.

Trapp will now join Crew SC's training camp in Brazil. Previously, head coach Gregg Berhalter has given returning national team players a couple days off to rest since they are usually ahead of the rest of the team physically.
