On Monday afternoon, a report emerged linking Columbus Crew SC with Ghanian defensive midfielder Mohammed Abu.

The report originated from Norwegian writer Ola NiemannIf who covers Abu’s current club Strømsgodset IF and stated the deal would be for two years with an option for a third.

Just before the Black & Gold left for the first leg of the 2017 preseason, sporting director and head coach Gregg Berhalter was asked about the link connecting the club with Abu.

While Berhalter would not confirm the report, he also did not deny it.

“What I’ll say is we’ll probably have a player signing announcement this week and you’ll have to stay tuned,” he said.

Fans can read into this what they will, but it sounds like there should be some official news coming out soon.

And it may not be just one announcement either.

Massive Report asked Berhalter about Crisitan Martinez, who came on loan to Crew SC from Chorrillo FC last May. The Panamanian teenager, who spent the rest of 2016 in Columbus, playing five times and scoring one goal, was with the team as they prepared to board the plan to Sao Paulo.

Again, Berhalter was predictably coy with his response.

“I’d say the same thing,” he said. “We’ll have some player announcements this week and you’ll have to stay tuned.”

Well, I guess you’ll have to stay tuned. We recommend checking back right here.
