Columbus Crew SC vs. New England Revolution 2016: Game Time, TV Schedule, Live Stream

New, comments

All the info you need for tonight’s Crew SC match.

The story leading into the game is Kei Kamara against his former team he unceremoniously left earlier this year. This would make for a better storyline if Federico Higuain, the man he feuded with on his way out of town, were available to play.

Unfortunately for Columbus Crew SC, the team’s playmaker remains out after sports hernia surgery and will not face the New England Revolution, a team he has found much success, on Saturday.

Both teams enter this match in hope of a much-needed win. The two sides sit outside the playoffs at this point and are disappointed with the first half of the season. Columbus is only two points above the Chicago Fire in the basement of the Eastern Conference, but can draw level with the Revolution with a win in this one.

New England will be looking to start the climb back up the East. After a 1-0 loss at home to New York City FC on Wednesday night, the Revs will be eager to get back out on the field and try and take advantage of Crew SC’s struggles.

Both teams will miss key players defensively in this match due to red cards. Black & Gold defender Tyson Wahl was sent off in the second half of the 3-2 loss to Sporting Kansas City and New England’s starting goalkeeper saw red late in the midweek.

The all-time series between these two MLS originals is slanted in favor of Crew SC. Columbus has 32 victories over the Revs in 65 meetings while New England has taken 21 wins from the Black & Gold.

Below we give you everything you need to know for the match. Come back at game time to discuss with your fellow fans.

Keys to the Match

  • Battle of Kamaras: The focus is obviously on Kei, but Crew SC’s Kamara, Ola Kamara, really should be talked about. While they do it differently, both have managed seven goals on the season (five of Kei’s came with Columbus). Who can get to eight or beyond in this one?
  • The rest of the offense: Both Kamaras need service to really be successful. It will be the job of each team to limit balls played into the forwards in order to keep them off the scoreboard.
  • Managing the reds: Which player stepping in will have the better game? Both Brad Knighton and Chad Barson (who likely replaces Wahl) have plenty of experience in MLS, playing more than 40 games a piece.
