Berhalter looks for a new attacker Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

Several reports from Argentina are linking Columbus Crew SC to 28 year old Union Santa Fe striker Lucas Gamba. He recently completed his second season for Santa Fe. He has made 39 appearances with seven goals and two assists over his career for the Argentine team.

Gamba is known as a pacy striker who, like seemingly all Berhalter targets, can play on the wings as needed. He doesn't appear to be a target striker in the Kei Kamara mold. Gamba is quoted in Argentine media saying that he hasn't heard of anything through his agent after going on vacation after the end of the league season, but sounded open to a challenge.

Columbus will likely be looking to add to the attacking corps after the trade of Kei Kamara. when the transfer window opens on July 4th and Berhalter has built a significant scouting network in his time with Crew SC. Columbus signed Hernan Grana before the 2015 season from Argentina.

Crew SC have also been linked to other signings in the past as Berhalter strengthened the squad, notably being linked to Panamanian striker Ricardo Clarke in the offseason before Ola Kamara was signed. The striker's agent even tweeted a picture of Clarke with Director of Soccer Operations Asher Mendelsohn before the deal apparently fell through.
