Crew SC sign Panamanian Cristian Martinez to loan deal

Winger impressed after extended training stint.

Columbus Crew SC added an offensive piece of the puzzle, and no, it was not a forward to replace Kei Kamara. The team added Panamanian winger Cristian Martinez on a season long loan from Chorrillo FC. Terms were not disclosed and it's unknown if Columbus added an option to buy.

Martinez has been training with the team since April as he tried to impress the coaching staff and his deal was worked out. During this time he played 45 minutes in a friendly against Veracruz.

Martinez, 19, has already appeared with the senior Panamanian national team, but earlier Berhalter thinks the young winger will need some time to adapt and may be a candidate to get some playing time with Pittsburgh.

Martinez will use the team’s open International Roster Slot obtained in the trade of Kei Kamara, but Waylon Francis is expected to receive his Green Card soon, freeing up a slot for Columbus to be active on the international market once the transfer window opens on July 4th.
