Welcome to the premiere edition of Across the Crewniverse, a look at what’s been going on in the world of Crew SC social media. Each week we will take a look at what’s been happening on and around the CrewSC hashtag on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
This edition will look at the reaction to the departure of fan-favorite midfielder Mo Saeid, who was selected by Minnesota United in last week’s expansion draft. A popular presence on Twitter due to his laid back attitude and fondness for Kermit the Frog memes, Mo’s departure was met with much unhappiness, and a fair few crying frog emoji’s.
say it ain't so Mo ☕ #CrewSC

Several responded to Massive Report’s tweet announcing the Saied pick. None were happy to see him leave.
I am so salty right now https://t.co/oaQxFgV7Od

Why is there no broken heart reaction? We'll miss you @Msaeid8. #WestSaied. https://t.co/JkgfuunxSn

This tweet popped up from the rumor department:
Edgar Castillo no será más jugador de Rayados. Columbus Crew y Cruz Azul, lo buscan. pic.twitter.com/RXwJ6sVfTe

Nothing has come from it so far, but it may just signal the start of “Silly season”, where the Black & Gold will be linked with any number of unlikely players. The original rumor started over the Thanksgiving holiday from reporter Axel Solis. Strikers and creative midfielders are always popular rumor starters, but with the announcement that Gaston Sauro will be missing the entire 2017 season, look for an uptick in center-defender rumors. One player we know for sure will be in Crew Colors next season is Alex Crognale, who signed a home-grown contract with the club this week. The center defender was an All-American in college, and at least one teammate is very excited to see him coming to Columbus.
Haven't been teammates since HS, happy to be back at it. Welcome to the squad @alexcrognale #CrewSc #GLHS
