Waylon Francis Had Surgery... But No One Told Us

The Crew SC left back apparently went under the knife on Tuesday.

If you’ve wondered why Waylon Francis seemed to disappear from the Columbus Crew SC squad rotation of late and has only played 40 minutes since injuring his shoulder in an Aug. 13 match with New York City FC, you questions were answered today.

Despite no update on the left back from the club, Francis had surgery, evidently successful, on Tuesday morning.

Francis left the match last month after 61 minutes following a collision on corner kick. The left back held his shoulder and walked straight to the locker room with Crew SC trainers.

After initial fear that Francis would require season-ending surgery due to a labral tear, head coach Gregg Berhalter told the Columbus Dispatch that the club would try physical therapy, allowing Francis to play again this season.

It appears that therapy did not work, as Francis appeared in two more matches before strangely disappearing from the Black & Gold’s game day plans. Now we know why.

Massive Report will have more information about Francis following Crew SC’s morning training session on Wednesday.
