Taking a Look Back at This Weekend in US Soccer

Another week goes by in US Soccer with the MLS teams fighting for playoff spots and USL teams clinching spots.

Labor Day weekend was a high scoring one in Major League Soccer. Along with seeing goals, there were also a few moves in both the East and West standings. Seattle has won it's last two games and continued to improve their standings. Despite losing their last three games, DC United continues to hold on to the top spot in the East.

MLS

In the East, DC United continues to lead the conference. Winning their last four games and climbing up the table are the New England Revolution. After getting shut down by FC Dallas Sunday night, Columbus Crew SC is just one point ahead of New England and a point behind the New York Red Bulls (games in hand!) for second place in the East. The Philadelphia Union are one point out of the playoffs while one win separates Orlando City from being in a playoff spot.

In the West, after winning three of their last four games, the Seattle Sounders are climbing back up the table. The Vancouver Whitecaps are just one point behind the LA Galaxy for first in the Conference. Sporting Kansas City and the Portland Timbers are just two points ahead of the San Jose Earthquakes, who are out of the playoffs. Along with leading the West, the LA Galaxy hold on to the Supporters' Shield standings by just one point over Vancouver and two points over FC Dallas and DC United.

NASL

After this week in the North American Soccer League, the New York Cosmos lead the Combined standings. Behind them is the Ottawa Fury and after winning on Saturday over San Antonio they are just under two games behind New York for first place. Minnesota United and Tampa Bay are the other two teams that are inside the playoffs right now. One win behind Tampa Bay are the Fort Lauderdale Strikers.

USL

Teams are beginning to clinch playoff spots in the USL. After tying the Richmond Kickers, the Rochester Rhinos became the 2015 Regular Season Champions. Louisville City is the only other team to clinch a spot in the East. In the West, five out of the six teams have clinched playoff spots. OKC Energy have the top spot in the West, behind them are the Colorado Springs Switchbacks. LA Galaxy II, Orange County Blues and the Sacramento Republic are the last next teams to earn playoff spots. Seattle Sounders 2 are continuing to fight for a spot with Tulsa Roughnecks.
