Last October, Columbus Crew SC were in the thick of the MLS Cup Playoff hunt. The team was one of the hottest sides in Major League Soccer, having won three games in a row on the climb up the Eastern Conference standings.
The Black & Gold travelled to take on the Philadelphia Union at PPL Park, looking to ride the momentum, but found themselves down 2-0 with less than 15 minutes to play.
Columbus then went on an incredible run, scoring three goals in four minutes to complete the comeback and earn a crucial three points. The win secured Crew SC of a playoff spot, its first since 2011, and eliminated the Union from postseason contention.
These two clubs meet again in another late-season clash on Saturday in Philadelphia. While this clash doesn't have the same direct implications on the playoffs, it could go a long way in determining who is standing at the conclusion of the regular season.
After a disappointing 3-0 defeat at home, the Black & Gold are in search of points. Columbus sits in third place in the Eastern Conference with 41 points. The New England Revolution are one point back of Crew SC and the top spot in the conference is only three points away. Columbus has played the most games in the East, so they must get points when they are available.
Philadelphia sits just outside the playoff line, 11 points behind the Black & Gold. The Montreal Impact are just a point ahead of the Union in the standings, but have played four less games.
Three points in this one would go a long way to help either club. Could we see another magical game like last year?
