Taking a Look back at This Week in US Soccer

Another week in US Soccer goes by and it will be an exciting finish for all three leagues

Steven Bisig-USA TODAY Sports

Another week gone by in US soccer and if it stays like this, it is going to be an exciting finish for all three leagues. MLS continues to keep things interesting while NASL teams like the Ottawa Fury and New York Cosmos are fighting for first place. In USL, Rochester Rhinos are slipping and Louisville City and Colorado Springs are right on their tail.

After another week in Major League Soccer, D.C. United continues to be the team to beat, they padded their Supporters' Shield standings with a 1-0 win over Montreal Impact on Saturday. Close behind them is the Vancouver Whitecaps who destroyed Real Salt Lake Saturday night. United continues to lead the East but close behind them are the New York Red Bulls and Columbus Crew are chasing them. Fighting for a playoff spot is expansion franchise Orlando City. Montreal is holding on to the 6th place spot but are tied in points with the Lions.

In the West, the Vancouver Whitecaps continue to lead and the Seattle Sounders continue to fall. Seattle has now lost five in a row and won just one of their last nine games. LA Galaxy gave them one of their losses on Sunday at StubHub Center. FC Dallas, Sporting Kansas City and Portland Timbers are just two points apart fighting for 3rd place in the West. Houston Dynamo will look to take the final playoff spot from Seattle this weekend.

In NASL, the Ottawa Fury continue to lead the combined standings after destroying Indy Eleven on Saturday 4-1. Just one point behind the Fury are the New York Cosmos and behind them are the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Holding on to the final playoff spot is Minnesota United, but just one point behind them are the Carolina RailHawks and Atlanta Silverbacks. With how close these teams are, it is going to shake up to be an exciting run to get into the playoffs.

In USL, the same team continues to lead the league, the Rochester Rhinos. Louisville City is closing in on them in the East. In the West, the Colorado Springs Switchbacks lead but just one point behind them is the Oklahoma City Energy and behind them is Seattle Sounders 2.
