Last year's inaugural Chipotle MLS Homegrown Game injected the league's All-Star events with some youthful exuberance and was a welcome addition to the All-Star platter. This year the game returns, as MLS descends upon Denver, Colorado, and Dick's Sporting Good's Park, home of the Colorado Rapids.
Tomorrow we get to see the big boys play, but tonight the Homegrown Game takes centerstage, with a collection of MLS homegrown products taking on Mexican side Club America's U-20 side.
The Homegrown squad, headed up by American soccer legend Landon Donovan in his coaching debut, will feature two Columbus Crew SC products — goalkeeper Matt Lampson and midfielder Ben Swanson.
Lampson participated in the event last year, as did Will Trapp, playing the first 45 minutes of the game. This is Swanson's first selection. The 18-year-old rookie has yet to make an official MLS appearance for the Black & Gold.
Lampson made Matt Doyle's "Five players to keep an eye on" in the Homegrown Game.
This is the game's OFFICIAL WEBSITE.
Last year's game, played at Providence Park in Portland, Oregon, saw a scoreless draw between the MLS Homegrowns and Portland Timbers U23s.
Here is this year's full homegrown roster...
