Crew SC's Swanson and Lampson tabbed by Donovan for MLS Homegrown Game

Columbus fans may be in a tizzy after being under-represented in the MLS All-Star Game, but a pair of Black & Gold youngsters have been selected to participate in the festivities' events.

Pablo Mastroeni may have offered the final snub of Ethan Finlay last week (after fans and MLS Commissioner Don Garber), but Landon Donovan has endeared himself to Columbus Crew SC fans.

On Monday the former Major League Soccer and U.S. Men's National Team star turned MLS Homegrown Game coach selected Black & Gold youngsters Ben Swanson and Matt Lampson to his squad for the event intended to shine a light on a growing number of homegrown products in the league.

The MLS Homegrown Game (presented by Chipotle, much to Kei Kamara's pleasure) will see Donovan's 22-man homegrown roster face the Under-20 side from Liga MX's Club America during the MLS All-Star festivities in Denver, Colorado, on Tuesday, July 28.

Lampson and Will Trapp represented Columbus a year ago in the inaugural event.

Lampson is one of just two goalkeepers on the Homegrown squad, suggesting that he will get to play a full half of the match. The 25-year-old started a year ago in the game against the Portland Timbers U-23s. He has made 16 career appearances for Columbus and is currently on loan with the USL's Charlotte Independence.

Swanson, an 18-year-old rookie who has never made an official MLS appearance, is one of nine other midfielders on the roster, many of which have already established themselves as MLS regulars, including Chicago's Harry Shipp, Vancouver's Russell Teibert, Philadelphia's Zach Pfeffer and Colorado's Dillon Serna. Shipp, Teibert and Serna all participated in last year's event.

Here is a full roster for the MLS Homegrown side:
