Columbus Crew SC open the season on the road once again, this time taking on the Houston Dynamo. Both teams are looking for a fast start to the season and three points in this one would be a step in the right direction.
Crew SC boast several offseason signings and a few of those should make their debut in this match. Forward Kei Kamara is expected to be the missing piece from last year, when Columbus only managed 10 goals from their forwards.
Hernan Grana will likely get the first crack at the right back position that was a revolving door a year ago. The Argentinian did miss some preseason action due to the birth of his son, but is the likely starter.
Winger Justin Meram, who finished last season with career high eight goals and four assists, will miss this match due to suspension. There are several options for head coach Gregg Berhalter, but Icelandic midfielder Kristinn Steindorsson saw most of the action at left midfield in the preseason.
The Dynamo begin a new era with just their second head coach in team history. Owen Coyle, who last coached Wigan Athletic, takes over for Dominic Kinnear. The majority of the team remains the same from last season, but the big offseason addition for Houston was center back Raul Rodriguez, who played for RCD Espanyol for the last four and half years and is expected to help shore up a Dynamo defense that allowed 58 goals in 2014.
If the Black and Gold can earn a win in Houston, it will be their first in four tries after two defeats and two draws.
