Tuesday night at the Bluestone, Columbus Crew SC officially released the 2015 home and alternate kits. For the first time since 2011, Crew SC are going back to a black alternate kit. The kits have already been leaked on social media and released for purchase by Fanatics.com, but that didn't stop the official release party.
Players got to model the new kits for supporters last night. Kei Kamara had a few comments on his modeling skills.
"I'm really good at it," he said smiling. "I think I'm the top on the team when it comes to modeling. The jerseys fit me really well so I'm excited."
Kamara, who was signed this offseason from Sporting Kansas City comes back to the team that first drafted him in 2006.
The new kits were designed to have the new Crew SC badge as the focal point of the kits. Also, on the front, is the Barbasol sponsor that has been a proud partner for a few years now.
"What we really wanted to emphasize was the gold and black heritage," President of Business Operations Andy Loughnane said. "We also wanted to showcase our new crest and have that be the star of the kit so we wanted to go for a clean, simple look. We also liked the embossed checkerboard, which you can see more easily on the black kit but the yellow kits have it as well as a tip of our hat to our supporters and our culture."
To represent the energy of Crew Stadium, now MAPFIRE Stadium, and Crew SC Supporters, the new badge's checkerboard pattern will be on both kits. Inside of the neck is the same checkerboard pattern on the authentic jerseys. All of the founding teams will have this on the inside of the kit behind their crest. This one coming from the New York Red Bulls' Twitter account.
The new kits do a very good job of showing the "New Crew" culture. The new Crew SC badge does a great job of showing the Crew's heritage and the German heritage in Columbus. Crew SC did a very good job of going back to the Black and Gold. Crew SC owns those colors in the city and they continue to show it. It will be exciting to see the new kits hit the field this season.
