Crew SC set to sign right back Hernan Grana

More back line help arrives from Argentina.

Internet reports from Argentina were backed multiple sources today confirming that Columbus Crew SC are set to sign veteran attacking right back Hernan Grana later this week pending a Thursday physical. Grana has played for over a half dozen clubs including All Boys, Lanus, and most recently Boca Juniors on loan. He'll be joining Columbus on a one year deal with two option years.

Columbus recently added center back Sergio Campbell via the draft and netted outside back Chris Klute in a trade with the Colorado Rapids. Grana would provide another challenger in a position where the team lost two primary starters in 2014, leaving only the versatile winger Hector Jimenez as the incumbent

Grana's most recent experience, a loan with Boca Juniors ended in December after he made 20 appearances for the club. Boca agreed to end the deal and Grana returned to All Boys. Grana didn't figure in All Boys plans this season either due to the club's relegation to the second division.

The signing may provide Grana a chance to rebound after an uneven time with Boca. He wasn't seen as the most stalwart defender, but coming to a Crew SC team that values possession and attacking wingbacks will allow him to show off his attacking skill set more. With a wide open competition at right back, he'll get a big chance to lock down
