Dutch Eredivisie side NAC Breda announced that they have hired former Columbus Crew SC assistant coach Robert Maaskant. This is Maaskant's second stint with NAC.
Maaskant joined Gregg Berhalter's staff in January after coaching teams in the Netherland, Poland, and Belarus. He coached Wisla Krakow in the UEFA Champions League in 2011.
Berhalter released a statement through a team spokesman: "We want to thank Robert for his contributions and his time spent in Columbus. We're delighted to have a former member of our staff accept a head coaching role in a topflight European league."
Maaskant has an extensive managerial resume throughout Europe and was previously linked with the open Motherwell FC job in December. He managed NAC Breda from 2008 to 2010, earning a Europa League bid in 2009. NAC has struggled this year and currently sits 17th in the Eredivisie with 13 points in 17 games.
Crew SC stated the search for Maaskant's replacement begins immediately.
