Giancarlo Gonzalez may have played his last game in Black and Gold if the transfer rumors turn out to be correct. A report from Al Dia out of Costa Rica has Palermo signing Gonzalez to a four year contract. The same reports have Gonzalez traveling to Italy today to complete the deal, which would keep him out of the game against Houston this evening.
Gonzalez had a spectacular World Cup and was named to several Best XI teams for his performances in marshaling the Costa Rican back line.
Fulham submitted two bids earlier this month, but the Crew and the league rebuffed the offers, but Berhalter said there was interest in the player.
Gonzalez joined the Crew in Febuary after transferring from Vålerenga, a Norwegian first division team. Berhalter confirmed there is a sell on clause and part of the sale of Gonzalez would go back to Vålerenga. He has played in 17 games for the Crew this year and scored his only goal of the year last week against Los Angeles.
