Columbus Crew Have Two Players in 2014 Chipotle MLS Homegrown Game

The roster for the first  2014 Chipotle MLS Homegrown Game was announced on Wednesday and will feature two Columbus Crew players. Midfielder Wil Trapp and goalkeeper Matt Lampson have both been selected to take part in the event on Monday, August 4 at Providence Park in Portland, Oregon.

According to the press release issued by the Crew, all MLS teams were asked to nominate eligible players for the game. Of those available, the 20-man roster was selected in consultation with Director of MLS Player Programs Alfonso Mondelo, who will coach the team.

Twelve MLS clubs will be represented in the game that will take place two days before the 2014 AT&T MLS All-Star Game and the team will take on the Portland Timbers Under-23 side at 10 pm ET, The match will be available through live streaming on WatchESPN and MLSsoccer.com.

"We are excited for Wil and Matt to have this opportunity," Crew head coach Gregg Berhalter told TheCrew.com. "Their selection is a testament to the hard work and success of the Crew Youth system, and specifically our Academy program. We're pleased to be among the MLS leaders in Homegrown Player development, and we're proud of all seven of our current Homegrowns and their contributions to our organization."

Columbus' seven homegrown players on their active roster ties them for the most in the league with FC Dallas. They are one of seven teams to have two players selected, while six other clubs had one homegrown player picked for the game.

The headliners of the match are Seattle Sounders' DeAndre Yedlin, who featured for the United States Men's National Team in the FIFA World Cup in Brazil last month, and Harry Shipp, who leads the Chicago Fire with six goals and five assists and is the leading candidate for Rookie of the Year.
