Orlando City SC selected former Columbus Crew SC forward Jairo Arrieta in the sixth round of the MLS Expansion Draft on Wednesday.

Arrieta, whose contract was not renewed by Crew SC following the 2014 season, finished his career with the Black and Gold with 67 appearance and 53 starts. He scored 17 goals and registered nine assists in his three seasons in Columbus. playing 4,632 minutes over that span.

Arrieta was signed as a Discovery Signing in April of 2012 after six seasons with Deportivo Saprissa. He made his Crew SC debut on July 14 and recorded his first MLS assist the following week followed by a two goal performance the next game. Arrieta finished 2012 tied with the team lead in goals at nine in only 18 games played.

Much was expected of Arrieta in 2013, as he looked to build on the success of his first half season in MLS. It was not to be though for the striker, who struggled to regain the goal scoring touch of the previous year. Arrieta finished the season with just three goals in 26 games played.

2014 brought a lot of change to Columbus with new head coach Gregg Berhalter. Arrieta improved on his numbers from his second season in MLS - five goals in 23 games - but was unable to do enough to earn a new contract.

He heads south to Orlando looking to revitalize his career and get back to the form that found him so much success in year one and helped him to earn call ups to the Costa Rican national team.
