Adam Jardy confirmed the news this evening that the second yellow will force Higuain out of the lineup during the critical home stand. With the team struggling to make the playoffs, there isn't anyone that can replace Higuain's production. He is tied for the team lead with nine goals and has a team leading six assists.
Higuain's second yellow is currently listed for dissent, but there are several reports from people at the game that Higuain swung out with an elbow at Nat Borchers' head and that is what attracted the assistant referee's attention. If that is the real reason that Higuain was carded, there could be the possibility of the Argentine sitting out further.
The MLS Disciplinary Committee reviews incidents from over the weekend and can extend suspensions. This wouldn't be the first time a Crew player ran afoul of the committee. Jairo Arrieta received a suspension in May from an elbowing incident against Colorado that originally wasn't carded.
