In a untimely coincidence, Sorin Stoica is the fourth official for tonight's Crew game against Portland. The Professional Referee Organization announced the assignment for the game on June 25th, well before his controversial performance during the Columbus v. Los Angeles matchup where he called two late penalties that the Galaxy converted to seal a late comeback.
Often fourth officials are locally based referees. Stoica resides in the Cleveland area. PRO could decide to replace Stoica to sidestep any possible issues. Dover, OH resident Chris Penso doesn't have any assignments this weekend and may be available.
