Federico Higuain will be in a Crew shirt for quite some time, Massive Report learned in a conversation with Crew President Mark McCullers. Higuain was signed to a two and a half year guaranteed deal through the 2014 season. The team has two more option years after that, that raises the prospect of keeping him in black and gold through 2016.
The Crew also paid a significant transfer fee of nearly $650,000 to get the deal done. The contract is the most lucrative in team history.
Higuain has been instrumental in the Crew's revival, scoring three goals and adding a team leading six assists in just six games from his midseason transfer. The team's playoff fortunes have been revived as the team went 4-1-2 during a recent stretch when the team played 7 games in 22 days.
