The Crew's playoff odds didn't look great at the beginning of the week. They are at 48 points and trailed Houston by one and D.C. by 3. Their playoff hopes took an early shock when Toronto let in a late goal to give the United all three points and push their point total to 54. At 6 points ahead, D.C. is nearly out of reach for the Crew.
However, Chicago took out the Red Bulls 2-0 in New York and left them on 53 points, only 5 points ahead of Columbus. NY has a tough game against KC and a road trip to Philly to close out the season.
The best news was Montreal's tie at BBVA Compass Stadium. Houston's tie gives them 50 points and returns full playoff control to the Crew. They can leapfrog into the playoffs with a win against Kansas City tomorrow.
Houston plays Philly at home and then go to Colorado. Those are both winnable games, but it doesn't matter if the Crew win out. Columbus can get back to the playoffs with 9 points. That's something you couldn't say with certainty om Monday.
